CONTRACTORS AND LABORERS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib,—l wish to draw the attention of the public to the advertisement of pick and shovel men which I saw in Saturday’s Star. This is, in my estimation, nothing but a swindle, for when working men apply at the office they have to pay 5s and they then receive a letter from the gentlemen there to go to Mr M’Kenzie at the railway. There •are over 1,000 men idle in Dunedin and suburbs, and I think Mr M'Kenzia could pick out aa many as he wants without these ticket-pickers.—l am, etc., An Employer of Labor. Dunedin, December 9.
