Even the Grahamstown people, according to a recent telegram, arc getting disgusted at the “how not to do it” policy of the Government in respect to Native affairs. The farce of relegating to a committee of chiefs the decision as to what should be done in the matter of the murderous attack on the survey party, has terminated just as might have been expected. The perpetrators of the outrage are still at large, are backed up by their tribe, and the confidence of the settlers in the district is so shaken that many of them c quitting their holdings. The latest reports indicate that there is danger of a general cmeutc. The Natives arc said to be erecting pahs, and a supply or arms has been sent from Auckland for the use of the settlers about Woitoa. This is “ peace and tranquility” with a vengeance !
