The insurance offices are said to have resolved to re-build all buildings burnt down whenever the insurance money will permit of this course being adopted. The Agent-General telegraphs that the Rakaia has left London with 295 immigrants for Wellington and Napier. Otto Finach, a leading European ornithologist, has accepted a mission from the Royal Academy of Sciences at Berlin to explore the islands of Western Polynesia, and it is expected he will visit this Colony shortly. The Kinross case occupied the Couit all the morning, Mr Sievwright conducting the prosecution in the absence of Mr Rees. Mr Stowe (clerk of the Legislative Council) and the Hon. Mr Mantell were subpoenaed to give evidence, but they pointed out that they were debarred ?from doing so, unless with the sanction of the Council; otherwise they had no objection to give evidence. Mr Sievewright called several Native witnesses, but their evidence was shown by documentary evidence to be unworthy. He then said that owing to some disarrangement of the time-table a lot of Native witnesses he expected were still at Napier. He therefore asked the Magistrate either to commit the accused or to adjourn the case till after the meeting of Parliament. Mr Mansford declined committing Mr Kinross, and said he could not adjourn the case as desired. The case was finally adjourned until the 17th inat. CHRISTCHURCH, June 10. The case of the City Council v. Ogden, for holding a Cheap Jack stall in Cathedral Square, broke down, Mr Garrick, counsel for the Council, having found a case in the last number of the • Law Journal' that cuts the ground from under their feet. Ihe Water Supply Committee of the Council holds a meeting on Thursday, to consider Mr Clarke's letter re water supply.

AUCKLAND, Juke 10. The Reception Committee resolved to give the Governor a ball on Thursday fortnight. The Governor will be driven into town, escorted by cavalry, and be received under a triumphal arch at the bottom of Queen street by the Mayor and citizens. Rewi to-day visited the Three Kings Institution. and was entertained there by the Rev. Mr Buddie. LAWRENCE, June 10. The Wetherstones Goldmining Company washed up yesterday with very good results after five weeks' crushing. A dividend of LIOO per quarter share has been allocated.
