FIRE AT BROAD BAY.
The residence of Mr Aiktnan Gray, at Broad B iy, was burned to the ground on night, ( Mr and Mrs Gray are in the habit of living fn town from Monday morning until Saturday night, and when the fire started there was only a female domestic on the premises. The girl states that shortly before the fire took place she was hanging up some clothes in a wardrobe room, And she thinks some article of clothing must IldVti CAUght flfo unnoticed by her. Mr Gray informs us that he had warned the girl against using candles in the house, and had only recently bought her two lamps. The house was very handsomely furnished, alia everything was totally destroyed. The furniture was insured in the National Office for LSOO. There was a policy in the same office on the building for L2OO, in the name of the mortgagee. Since purchasing the house Mr Gray had improved it at a cost of Ll5O, which he loses over and above the insurance. i>
