CITY POLICE COURT.

Saturday, March 29. (Before H. S. Fish, Esq., J.P.) Drunkenness.—James Thomson, Thomas George, and William M'Gee were fined 5s each, in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment. Threatening Language. William Lloyd, a fish-hawker, was charged on remand with using threatening language towards James Forrester. Mr F. R. Chapman, who appeared for the prosecution, said that the publicity given to these proceedings by the Press had caused two persons to come forward and offer to give evidence which would materially affect this prosecution.—The evidence was allowed.—Mrs Richards, living at Caversham, deposed that she recollected seeing defendant in a cab on Saturday last. He told her that Forrester had given him fourteen days, and that he would give Forrester as many years as Forrester had given him days.—W. E. Burman, cab-driver, recollected driving the last witness to Caversham on Saturday last, and defendant's getting into his cab. Witness corroborated Mrs Richards as to what Lloyd had said.—Evidence having been given for the defence by Lloyd, Mrs Ingram, and a little boy, his Worship said he did not consider the evidence sufficient to justify him in calling upon the defendant to find sureties. The language alleged to have been used was not heard by any one other than the complainant, and the defendant denied having used it. There was evidently a good deal of ill-feeling between the parties, and the complainant, being more intelligent and evidently more respectable than the defendant, should endeavor to avoid coming into contact with Lloyd. In dismissing the case he recommended Lloyd to abstain from irritating or annoying the complainaut in any way, for if not he would be very severely punished. The cautj was dismissed with a very strong caution.—Lloyd promised to take advantage of the advice offered by tho Bench, and retired.
