THE CLUTHA COUNTY COUNCIL.
At the : regular, meeting of the Clutha .County Council yesterday all the members were present. Ihe following motion, moved by Mr J. H. Jenkinson and seconded by Mr Thomas rßrydone, was carried :—" That the clerk be instructed to'obtain counsel's opinion (Mr Macassey's) whether, in the event of the Clutha County Council obtaining legal possession of the Balclutha traffic bridge, and forthwith, in the event of its reconstructing the same, can this Council legally recover one-half the cost of the said work from the County of Bruce '" Messrs Brydono, Ayson, Mosley, Jenkinson, Dallas, and the chairman voted for the motion, Capt. M'Kenzie, Messrs Black and Scobie against it. It was then moved by Mr W. A. Mosley, seconded by Mr P Ayson, and carried—" That if the legal opinion be favorable the chairman apply to the .Government for control of the Balclutha bridge under the Bublic Works Act." Crs. :M*Kenzie and Clark fought hard to have the railway bridge made available for ordinary traffic, but were defeated by 6 to 3.
