In a race between Antwerp pigeons from Picton (over 50 miles from Sydney), tho winner did the distance in 43min. An inquiry into the late cannon accident at Brisbane has been held. Several witnesses were examined. The officer in charge of the saluting party considers that the vent of the gun was properly served, and that no blame can l>e attached to No. 1 gunner! His opinion is that the accident occurred from defective sponging on the part of Gunner Walsh, by the cartridge exploding before it was rammed home. The cast of the gun shows that it was not honeycorabed, but that its bore was very rough with rutt.
