THE CRACK SHOOTING NEAM.

_ ; ’ „ , to the editor, , Sir,—The North-Dunedin Rifles in your last issue claim to possess tbe crack shooting team in Dunedin. Tip* is a statement' the truth of which is at once apparent to the most casual observer, and is fully out by tbe following few facta:— ■ , Iq 1876 the North Dunedin team occupied the “onorable position of ninth for the-Ladles’ challenge Shield—a trophy.which is competed for annually by picked men from each company—beating by several points both the carbine teams. The .City Guards only succeeded in winning the coveted prize by one point. The following year the Rifles occupied sixth place, and the Guards were third. At the lust competition the Rifles wore only (our points under the second lowest team. The Guards won the Shield this year also. Again, at the recent meeting of the Otago Rifle Association the Guards carried off prizes to the value of L 55. The Rifles won nearly LI 4. The above are only a few of the many instances which coull readily be furnished of the infinite superiority of the Rifles over every other company in this district. A discerning public will at once see that the North 'Dunedin Rifles deserve unquestionab y their proud, although self-conferred, title of “ ine crack shooting company of Otago.”—l am, Ac., ■ PALMAJt'qUI NON MBEUIT FBEAT.
