A darinff attempt at robbery was perpetrated within 300 yards of the police station of Hay, New Seuth Wales. A man with his face covered with crape entered Mr Maher's Exchange Hotel in Newton, demanding Mr Maher to "bail up," at the same time presenting a revolver at the landlord. .On Mr Maher jumping up, the wouldbe robber fired at him, the Dall passing within two inches of Mr Maher's headTjMr Maher closed with the man as he was taking aim agaia, but the ruffian wrenched himself out of his grip, and made off, and has not been seen since.
