CHAIN HILLS TDNNEJj. One of the staff of the ‘Bruce Herald’ lately inspected the Chain Hills tunnel, and found very little progress had been made during the p;ist six months. In this period only two chains have been completed, giving seven chains in all of the twenty chains—the com ■ plete length of the tunnel. The workmen are on very hard stone, and a great deal of water flows in upon them while at work by day and night, during three shifts of eight hours each, Ihe ‘ Herald ’ says that at the present rate of progress it will take nearly two years to complete the tunnel, OUTRAM: BRANCH LINE. At a meeting at Outram on the 15th instant of persons interested in getting a branch line from Grcytowu to Outram, Mr Shand, M.P.O. read a letter from the Provincial Government to the effect that the proposed company could have the use of the bridges for railway traffic when finished. • The * Herald’* ’ report state* that all the landowners were present (except two) and agreed to give the land for the rail* ways on the same terms g, s offered to the G6goods traffic was estimated «£ toils a-year.
