THE ABSTAINERS’ UNIONS.

To the Editor. Sir, —Being a constant reader of your journal, I was very much pleased with yorr remarks on the concert held the other evening by the Abstainers’ Union in the Oddfellows’ Hall, for the benefit of Master Parker; and would fain trust that, by the liberal support they received from the public, they will soon have another; and I think the committee might get some of their number to give a few remarks on the numerous advantages such societies confer on all who have the moral courage to join their ranks and keep their pledge. I quite agree with you in your remarks on the dialogues given by the young men from the Mornington Total Abstinence Society and Band of Hope—so much so that, hearing that their fortnightly meeting was to be held on Monday evening, and being anxious to si*e bow they got on in their own society, I made it my endeavor to attend, and 1 am happy to say I was not dissappointed. In the first place, they had a very good attendance, far beyond what one would have expected in the locality ; and in the second place, the dialogues delivered were excellent, nearly all different from what we had at the concert—some of them very amusing, others very serious, clear, and practical; and the easy way these young men went through them showed that they understood their subject thoroughly. Being an old stager, I would just say to these young men—“ stick to your pledge and your dialogues, and by patience and perseverance you will one day reap your reward.” By inserting the above you will oblige one who has the cause at heart. I am, &0., Never Despair.
