(from greville's telegram company, beuter’s agency.) Wellington, Sept. 23. The Governor drove the first pile of the Hutt bridge to-day, hi the presence of a large number of persons. The volunteers and artillery fired a salute, and the day has been observed as a public holiday. Oamaru, Sept. 23. The dwelling house of Mr Mackay was totally destroyed by fire last night. The cause of the fire was the accidental bursting of a kerosene lamp. The building was insured in the Liverpool, London, and Globe office.
