Probable Pec all or .Sir George Grey.— As a statement has gone the rounds of the colonial journals, to the effect “ that at the time the mail left England, it was rumoured that Sir George Grey would he asked to retire, under the provisions of the Colonial Governor’s Retiring Pension Bill, which recently passed through the Imperial Parliament,” we take this opportunity of stating what are the real facts in connection with a subject of so much interests to the colonists. Between four and five months ago, when the quarrel between Sir George Grey and Gen. Cameron was at its most bitter phase, his Excellency wrote to Mr Cardwell, the Secretary of State for the Colonies, requesting to be released from his post, as, —in the case of antagonism existing between men in high rank, —the interests of the colony were likely to suffer, and for their sake he—while at the same time justifying his proceedings —was prepared to sacrifice his post. There has not yet been time to receive a reply to his Excellency despatch, hut it may arrive by the present mail. We cannot anticipate what will be its nature, but meantime it is certain that Sir George Grey has tendered his resignation, and it is probable 'that it will be accepted.— 11th Not.
