THIS DAT. (Before the Hon. A. C. Strode, R.M.) DRUNKENNESS. James Barr was charged with this offence, and fined 20s and costs, with the usual alternative. LUNACY. Frederick Whitman was charged with being a lunatic, and too dangerous to be at large. It appeared that the prisoner, who resides at Blueskin, has for the last three days been roaming about with firearms in his possession. Yesterday he entered a house, seized a woman there round the waist, and brandished a knife over her, saying he '' would soon distinguish his friends from his foes." The prisoner was remanded for medical examination. CIVIL CASES. Wm. 1/. Hill v. Jas. Fraser, claim of £l9 14s 6d for horse hire, &c. A set of £l6 16s 6d was put in, of which the sum of £2 7s 6d was admitted. Judgment was given for plaintiff to the amount of £4 0s 6d, and costs. Henry East v. George Philips, claim of £5 for money lent. The plaintiff was represented by his attorney, but he could not say anything as to the case further than the production of the 1.0.U.'s for the money sued for. Plaintiff nonsuited.

Farnie v. Brenchley, claim of £8 4s for lighterage. This case Bad Leen adjourned for the production of the -witness -with whom the contract was made. This witness stated that the <ief endaat made a contract with him to lighter a quantity of potatoes to Tort Chalmers at tbe rate of £4 per ton. In defence it was stated that the contract had been made by the defendant only as an agent. Judgment was given for the plaintiff for the amount claimed, together with costs.

He also orders his business to be wound up (but without haste) ; and instructs that all private debts under £l2O can be entirely cancelled if desired by the debtors ; while sums above £3OOO may be allowed to stand over for a year at former interest. To crown the whole, he orders his executors, under the greatest secrecy, neither to crave nor sue by law for any outstanding claims. Who would not wish to have been in the debt of such an obliging fellow ?
