WAR CRIMINALS
NEW COURTS IN REICH
LONDON, December 24,
The Allied Control Council in Berlin has issued a decree establishing courts to try war criminals who are not being tried by the Allied Tribunal at Nuremberg. The courts are empowered to pass death sentences. Paul Hoffman, who controlled the crematorium at Maidenek concentration camp in Poland, was executed yesterday. A Polish court ordered Hoffman to be publicly hanged close to the crematorium. When German police searching for stolen goods stopped a car yesterday morning on the outskirts of Hamburg, two passengers drew revolvers and fired, killing one policeman, says the "Daily Telegraph." The occupants restarted the car and drove on.
