The Awapuni trainer H. Griffiths is finding it difficult to win a race with Dutch Mary, despite her undoubted speed. The. three-year-old daughter of Lady Oratress looked like the winner half-way from home in the Kuku Maiden, No. 1, at Otaki, but she was weakening over the final furlong and was ndsed out of the major placing right on the post. Still Winning-. Described as a "knock-kneed veteran." Bull Reigh, veteran of more than 100 races, spent the spring of 1945 in service at the stud in America, getting about 14 mares in foal. He then returned to the active ranks to win the 50,000 dollars added American Handicap at a Hollywood meeting. Heis owned by the actress Carlotta Jelm, who at 15 is a veteran of six years as an owner of racehorses. Not Out of Turn. Winner of the Papatawa Hurdles at Woodvillo, Merger has had a long career which has not been attended with much success up to the present. Prior to his unexpected victory on Saturday his record was one win and two minor placings in five seasons. By Inflation from Pheon, a half-sister by Arrowsmith to a useful performer in Arikira, Merger v as apparently suited by the easy going on Saturday, for he hit out. very freely and, lumping in great style, never looked like being headed. He was capably handled by his trainer, E. ~. Baker.
