QUEEN'S THANKS
COMFORTS FOR BRITISH
A.T.S
The chairman of the National Patriotic Fund Board has received from Buckingham Palace a letter conveying her Majesty the Queen's appreciation of the support given by New Zealand through the board to the Duchess of Northumberland's Comforts Fund for the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service in Britain.
"Now that the comforts fund for the A.T.S. is closing down," states the letter, "the Queen as patron has commanded me to ask you to convey to thf New Zealand National Patriotic Fund her Majesty's warm and grateful thanks for the magnificent way in which they have supported the fund during the war. The Queen knows what sympathy and kind henrtedness prompted such splendid work, and her Majesty is happy to think of the many warm and lasting friendships which have been made between the kind donors to the fund and the many thousands of the girls in the A.T.S. who were recipients of the practical and mos 1. welcome gifts sent to the fund.
"The Queen bids me add that the generous help given by the New Zealand National Patriotic Fund has been both a comfort and a joy to officers and auxiliaries at home and overseas, who will never forget all that has been done for them during the past years,, of harsh warfare."
The letter was signed by the Duchess of Northumberland as chairman and president of the fund for the A.T.S.
New Zealand's contribution to the British A.T.S. comprised in the main scarves, gloves, mittens, and other woollen comforts, which were made X up by the Auckland centre of the Women's War Service Auxiliary from wool supplied by the board.
