NEW MAGISTRATE
PALMERSTON NORTH MAN
The appointment as a Magistrate of Major L. G. H. Sinclair, barrister and solicitor, Pahnerston North, is announced by the Minister of Justice (Mr. Mason). Major Sinclair will take up his duties in Auckland early in the New Year, and will fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr. S. I. Goodall. . ,~. j For 12 years before being mobilised for military service in 1942. Major Sinclair was in practice in Palmerston North. Since January, 1944, he has been in the service of the Western Pacific High Commission. He was appointed assistant legal adviser to the High Commissioner, and for a time acted as legal adviser to the AttorneyGeneral of Fiji. While in Fiji he was seconded for a period to theTongan Government as Chief Justice, and as Chief Magistrate in the British Solomon Islands Protectorate. He was senior British Liaison Officer to the American and Australian Forces m the Solomons. Major Sinclair is 43 years of age, was educated at the Palmerston North Boys' High School, and in 1921 entered asa cadet in the Public Service. He resigned in 1925 to join a local firm of solicitors, and. has practised in Wellington, Nelson, and Palmerston North.
