CHAIR OF MATHEMATICS

APPOINTS NEW ZEALANDER Rec. 1.15 p.m. SYDNEY, Dec. 22. Dr. Keith Edward Bullen, aged 39, a New Zealander with brilliant qualifications, has been appointed to the Chair of Applied Mathematics, which was recently established by the University ° Drf BuUen obtained the M.A. degree with first-class honours in mathematics in 1927, and from 1928 to June 1 last was lecturer in mathematics at Auckland University College. In 1931 he proceeded to Cambridge, where he continued his studies in mathematics and gained the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. Returning to New Zealand in 1934, he was appointed senior lecturer at Auckland UniversityCollege until 1940, when he transferred to the University of Melbourne. Dr. Bullen is an applicant for the degree of Doctor of Science at the University of Cambridge.
