PACIFIC AIR SERVICE
O.C. SYDNEY,. December 4. A Liberator which left Sydney on December 2 was the last official plane in the R.A.F. Transport Command's Pacific service. Australia is now isolated by air from North America, except for an occasional U.S. Army machine carrying Americans and mails. When Pan-American Airways' service to Auckland is resumed, probably in March, it may be extended to Australia. Before the war the Australian Government would not give the company permission to land unless reciprocal landing rights on Pacific territory were given to British Empire air services.
The president of the Christchurch Returned Services Association, Mr. D. W. Russell, welcoming personnel who returned on the Mooltan, suggested that the broadcasting authorities call New Zealand to a moment's silence at 1 p.m. en Christmas Day in remembrance of those who laid down their lives during the war, says a P.A. message from Christchurch.
