MANY EXTRA TRAINS

HEAVY RAIL TRAFFIC

Five extra expresses were put on yesterday from Wellington to cope with the dispatch of the troops off the Mooltan, three to Auckland, one to Gisborne, and one to New Plymouth. The arrangements worked excellently, and all the men were started home during the morning. .-,„■, Twelve expresses are leaving Wellington today, conveying holiday traffic, six for Auckland, two for Napier and Gisborne, one each for New Plymouth and Wanganui, and, two for the Wairarapa. Eleven expresses are leaving on Saturday, four for Auckland, three for the Wairarapa, two for New Plymouth, and two for Napier, and Gisborne. Three expresses leave for Auckland on Sunday. Monday (Christmas Eve) will be a particularly heavy day. Thirteen expresses will leave Wellington, four to Auckland, three to the Wairarapa, two to. Napier and Gisborne, and one each to New Plymouth and Wanganui, and two night trains to Napier and New Plymouth. Bookings are not now being taken beyond January 12, and on January 6 booking practice will revert to seven days in advance. people who have suddenly, found it imperative that they should travel, for the most urgent reasons, haunt the booking offices. Some are lucky enough to benefit, by cancellations on production of cogent reasons for travel. The scene at the railway station is a busy one, and there are still queues. ,
