MARINE ENGINEERS
Sir,—l was surprised to read in your report of the function recently held by the New Zealand Institute of Marine Engineers 'that marine engineers were not very highly regarded by those controlling the registration of engineers in New Zealand. In Great Britain there is a corporate body, the British Institute of Marine Engineers whose members are as highly regarded as any member of any of the other corporate engineering institutions, and I know many fine men who are members I know that in New Zealand nearly all the large manufacturing concerns, freezing works, and the like, have marine engineers in charge £l them. During the war years all the war supplies which have been stored and sent overseas have arrived at their destinations as a result of the efforts of marine men. Who has not been thrilled by the stirring accounts of the war services of these men who have carried on their -highly technical ■jobs under immense difficulties, and one cannot imagine why'they are not regarded as sufficiently professional to be allowed- registration in New Zea-land.-I am, etc^^ MARINER .
