Holiday Hitch-hike,
A hitch-hike to the southern end of the South Island is being undertaken during the 'school holidays by a Whangarei High School mistress and a school dental nurse. It is the intention of the two women to set out from Hamilton soon after' Christmas and they propose to go as far as Stewart Island. On the return trip normal means of travel will be ; utilised. Except for the inter-island ferry fare, the two expect to travel without cost, except, for accommodation. Four Sisters Head Prefects. The youngest of five sisters, all of whom have been prefects of St. Margaret's College, Christchurch, has ended her term as head prefect of the college last week. Mention of this was made at the, college prize-giving ceremony by the headmistress, Mrs. C. L. Young, who said that the record of the family | might be unique. Four of the five girls—the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Harris, of Christchurch—had been head prefects of the school. Packakariki Christmas Party. Members' children were entertained by Father Christmas at this month's meeting'of the Paekakariki Women's Institute and presented with gifts from tin gaily-decorated Christmas tree. The gifts had all been made by members during the year in preparation for the party, and their hard work was amply repaid by the joy with which the children received their presents. Operetta For Aged Folk. The Christmas operetta presented recently at St. Anne's Hall, Northland, by Mrs. Ruby Poynton, was repeated at a Christmas party at the Home of the Aged Needy, Newtown, recently. After the entertainment tea was served and Father Christmas arrived laden with gifts for the old folk. About 35 young people took part in the programme. Mrs. B. Flockton was accompanist, and Mrs. B. Marris wardrobe mistress.
