BRITISH OPEN GOLF

CHAMPIONSHIP PRIZES

Rec. 1.50 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 20. The St. Andrews Golf Club announced that prize-money for the British open golf championship to be held on July 1, 1946, would be doubled, bringing the total to £1000. The winner will receive £150 and the runnerup £100, with £75 for the winner of the third place. £50 for fourth, and £25 for fifth. The next 35 competitors will receive £15 each.

Pointing out that the prize-money hitherto has been a secondary consideration, the "Daily Mail's" golf writer recalls that Walter Hagen handed over a first prize of £ 100 as a tip to his caddy.
