DEMONSTRATIONS IN DUTCH OPERA HOUSE
Rec. 10.50 a.m. AMSTERDAM, Dec. 19,
Shouts of "Sieg Heil" from the gallery and scuffles among the audience in which police used sabres to restore order marked a demonstration at a performance of the opera "La Tosca" against the appearance of Dutch artists who carried on stage work during the German occupation. The lights went off several times, but the opera continued amid loud applause from the packed theatre.
There was renewed trouble when the artists were leaving the stage door after the performance. The police again drew their sabres to clear the crowd outside the theatre. Flowers bought for the-artists were hurled on the pavement and stamped on, and attempts were made to slash the tyres of a bus which was waiting to take the orchestra home. The police made 11 arrests.
