SYNTHETIC GOLF BALL
(Special P.A. Correspondent.) LONDON, December 19
Tests have shown that the new synthetic golf ball which is available in small quantities for Boxing Day competitions compares favourably with the 1939-40 rubber-cored ball. It is stated that to the average medium handicap golfer there is no distinguishable difference between the pre-war rubbercored ball and the synthetic variety. It travels as far and flatters his skill in the same way. To a professional the synthetic ball is about 10 to 15 yards shorter with the wind, but goes the same length against it when playing a full drive, while with iron clubs there is practically no difference.
