RIFLE SHOOTING
SUBURBS CLUB MEETING
The Wellington Suburbs Defence Rifle Club recently held its first annual general meeting since the outbreak of World War 11. It was revealed that in 1940, when war supplies of all kinds were in short supply, the senior officers of the club, led by the president, the late Mr. W. G Fellingham, decided to offer to surrender to the Army authorities the club's entire accumulated stocks of ammunition. The offer was accepted with official thanks, and it was promised that the ammunition would be replaced, round for round, at the end of the war. When club members learnt of the transaction, they expressed appreciation of the far-sighted public spirit which their officers had displayed. ' Appreciative reference was made to the services given to the riflemen of the district by the club president. Mr. S. F. McLean, who from 1936 to 1945 was chairman of the Wellington Rifle Association. His recent election to honorary life membership of the association was regarded as a just tribute to his good administration. The club's shooting programme will commence on the afteimoon of Saturday. January 12, 1946. with a 300----yard shoot at Trentham. Former members' with whom contact has been lost, during the years of war will be made welcome on the range, with or without their own rifles and ammunition. In the absence of the pre-war rail concessions, riflemen will have to make their own travelling arrangements.
The club's chief officers aij as follows:—Patron, Mr. R. A. Wright; president Mr. S. F. McLean; hon. secretary, Mr. PI. R. Hunt; delegates to W.R.A., Messrs. S. F. McLean and B. Dunn.
