REPLY TO CRITICISM

Criticism of Mr. Stronach Paterson by the Hon. W. Grounds, M.L.C., during the second reading debate on the Bank of New Zealand Bill in the Legislative Council was referred to at a meeting of the executive of the Associated Chambers of Commerce yesterday Members made it plain that they were not concerned with Mr Grounds's views on Mr. Paterson as a director of the Bank of New Zealand but they said they resented very strongly his remarks on Mr. Paterson as a member of the Associated Chambers of Commerce. They placed on record their unanimous approval of Mr. Paterson's service in the cause of free enterprise throughout the Dominion over a long period, and their confidence in him as a past president and a continuing member of the executive of the Associated Chambers of Commerce.

Lieutenant-Commander Harold W. Larsen, M.8.E., R.N.V.R., has been appointed to take charge of the United Nations Relief ond Rehabilitation Administration Office which will be opened in Wellington this month, says a Press Association message from Sydney. Lieutenant-Commander Larsen is a New Zealander who has served with the1 Royal Navy since 1939. He was formerly senior lecturer in economics at Canterbury University College.
