PLANES FOR CLUBS
MORE SHOULD BE READY
PA DUNEDIN, November 30. A' statement by the Minister of Defence (Mr. Jones) that only eight or nine Tiger Moths are ready to be taken over by aero clubs had occasioned amazement, stated officers interviewed, who claimed that in the hands of the R.N.Z.A.F. these machines were given such maintenance that they gave little trouble. The Gipsy Major engine had proved so dependable that its life between major inspections was officially redoubled, till it reached a figure in excess of 1000 hours, and the airframes had proved equally dependable. It is understood that these Moths were lately returned from Taieri to a private company in the North Island for the overhaul referred to, though the resources of the Air Force could scarcely have been inferior to those of the company. It is qtiestioned whether the operations of the company will not noticeably enhance the price to be paid.
