OPENING CEREMONY

The opening ceremony of the South Island Main Trunk railway will take place at Kaikoura on Saturday, December 15. The function will take place at 12.45 p.m., and will include the unveiling pi" a tablet to the memory of men who lost their lives during the construction of the line. There will be presentations to the Minister of Railways (Mr. Semple) and the member for'Marlborough (Mr. E..P. Meachen). Trains will leave Christchurch and Picton at 7 a.m. to attend.

There will be a sports gathering at Kaikoura in the morning, commencing at 10 o'clock. Special arrangements are being made for the transport of men from the various public works camps to Kaikoura for the ceremony, and local bodies are arranging a luncheon for the official party.
