MOTOR PRICES
BRITISH COSTS TOO HIGH PA CAMBRIDGE, This Day. Consideration by the Cambridge Power Board last night of the possible '. replacement of some of its fleet of ; trucks and cars resulted in the fol- • lowing resolution at the instance of ; the chairman (Mr. Mervyn Wells): "All of us who have ears to hear have lis--1 tened to the official American broad- '■ case, stating that in two principal motor ' products manufacturers' prices were advanced only 2 and 1£ per cent, re- ' spectively, while in a third instance ■ prices had actually been reduced by ; 1 per cent, compared with pre-war , prices. In the face of these prices, the 1 Cambridge board is concerned with 1 the rise of 100 per cent, in the price iof British products. While most New [ Zealanders are anxious to spend money within the family, and also to assist 1 the sterling position. the prices of . British production must be reviewed." The board decided to send the rcso- ' lution to the British Trade CommisL sioner to New Zealand, and also to , the Minister of Trade and Commerce. , Pending their replies, the board dc- " cided to purchase only for its immediate requirements.
