CEREMONY TOMORROW

SEAMEN, MARINES, AND BAND

Contingents from H.M.S. Indefatigable, Urchin, and Wizard will parade through Wellington tomorrow morning, accompanied by the carrier's marine band. The parade will commence at Courtenay Place at approximately 10.30 and will pass a base near the Railway Station from which the Prime Minister will take the salute. From there the parade will proceed down Waterloo Quay to the ships. The parade will start at the corner of Taranaki and Manners Streets and proceed along Manners Street, Willis Street, Lambton, Quay. Stout Street, Bunny Street, Waterloo Quay, and on to the ships. With Sir Philip Vian on the saluting base will,be the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) who will take the salute, members of the Admirals staffs, members of the New Zealand Naval Board and of the Government Leading the parade will be the King's Colour and the colour party, followed by the parade commander and colour escort, consisting of one platoon each from H.M.S. Wizard and Urchin. Next will come the Royal Marine Band, followed by a battalion consisting of four companies and a detachment of Royal Marines from H.M.S. Indefatigable. The Colours will be dipped and the parade will give an "Eyes Right," officers saluting, as the contingent passes saluting s base. The Mayor (Mr. Appleton) has asked that citizens should turn out to give the men from the visiting ships a warm welcome and that bunting be displayed along the route. Since the Indefatigable her two escorting destroyers berthed yesterdaycrowds df people have taken advantage of the sunny weather to inspect the warships from the wharf. At present a large area around the carrier is blocked off by barricades and the public can only watch the ship from behind them. Nevertheless a large number has been attracted. The public will first be allowed on the ships from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, and they are to be open again on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. . . Tonight a ball is to be given m the Town Hall for Admiral Vian, his captains, officers, and men, by the Wellington Provincial Patriotic Society. The dance band of the H.M.S. Indefatigable will be played into the ballroom' by two pipers of the Wellington Police Band, and the ship's brass band will play a few numbers during the evening. Admiral Vian and his senior officers will make an official entry at approximately 9 p.m. _,_,_. A cricket team from the Indefatigable is to play a match with a Wellington team at Karori Park tomorrow from 1.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. In a recent match with New South Wales the visitors lost by one wicket. The team to oppose them tomorrow will include Service and provincial representatives, three of whom (M. Browne, B. Griffiths, and K. Hatch)- played against English and other sides when on service in the Middle East. The Wellington team is: Allen, Mullan, Oliver, Maiden. Barclay, Griffiths. Hatch, Browne. Barber, Orsborn, and Lubransky.
