FEW ABSENTEES
From a quick round of inquiries a "Post" reporter gathered that there ere remarkably few absentees from work today, either in private or public employment, though there possibly are some establishments where groups of employees put their heads together yesterday and decided that walking in from far away would be too much
altogether. Many firms made their own arrangements as to morning transport, by sending business and indi-vidually-owned cars on the rounds to bring staff members in to work; others sent out their business trucks.
The Chief Postmaster said that the Wellington Post Office had almost a 100 per cent, staff on-duty when business began this morning. Some difficulty had been foreseen in assembling the postmen and postwomen for their early start at 7 a.m., but all were on duty except one postwoman, who came in a little later. Special transport had been arranged to take postmen and postwomen to the starting points of their rounds, and generally things had run along very smoothly.
