AUCKLAND SHOOTING

P.A. AUCKLAND, November 14. Inquests into the deaths of Mrs. Hannah Lawson, aged 45, housemaid, and Jack Dickinson (alias Jack White), aged 34, labourer, central figures in the double shooting affair in Wynyard Street on the night of Monday, October 29, were concluded by the Coroner, Mr. A. Addison, today. Dickinson was found lying wounded in the middle of the road with a bullet wound in his head at 10.20 p.m., shortly after the discovery of Mrs. Lawson's body with a bullet wound in the left eye iri a room in an apartment house in Wynyard Street. The wounded man died at Auckland Hospital the following morning. "It is clear that it was a cold, calculated, premeditated act," said the Coroner in returning a verdict that Mrs. Lawson's death was caused by laceration of the brain as the result of a gunshot wound inflicted with intent by Jack Dickinson, also known as Jack White. The verdict in Dickinson's case was that the cause of death was suicide by a self-inflicted bullet wound in the skull.

COMING CONFERENCES

Councillors. F. W. Furkert and M. F. Luckie will represent the Wellington City Council at a conference of municipal electric supply authorities to consider the recommendations of the Local Government Committee in regard to electricity supply. The conference is to be held on November 22.

Councillors. W. J. Gaudin and E. M. Gilmer and the City Librarian (Mr. J. Norrie) are to represent the Wellington City Council at the annual conference of the New Zealand Library Association at Auckland in February. Councillor R. L. Macalister, chairman of the reserves committee, and the Director of Parks and Reserves (Mr. J. G. MacKenzie) will represent the Wellington City Council at the conference of reserves committees and park superintendents at the annual conference of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture at Timaru in February.

The Thespians' have chosen Henrik Ibsen's play, "A Doll's House," for their final production for the year and the season opens on Wednesday night next in (lie Concert Cbimber. Their cast includes Joan Alrey, Robert Clieyne, Pat Ilildreth, Edward Furb.v, aud Basil Clarke. The play is being produced' by Russell Reld. Box plans open at .the D.I.C. on Monday.

MIRAMAR ROSE SHOW,

The Miramar and Eastern Suburbs Horticultural Society's Rose Show will be held on Saturday nt the Miramar South School. Classes aro provided for roses, pansies, cut. flowers, decorative work, etc. Children's classes will be a feature of the show, whicli opens at 2.30 p.m.
