A CHEAP HORSE

SUCCESS OF BULLDOZER

The Addington owner-trainer V. Alborn now appears to have a cheap horse in Bulldozer, whom he purchased for £100 last Easter from L. F. Berkett. Having his first start under new colours on the first day at Addington, he broke a hopple early in the contest and had to be pulled up. i Produced on the final day he madej no race of the William Hayward Han- j dicap and credited his new owner with j a stake of £715 : -id a dividend of over a score. A solidly-built gelding by Grattan Loyal from Alpine Melody, he looks as if he will go on to still further success. May Improve. Engaged in the trotting events at the Reefton Trotting Club's Meeting, All Credit was quietly fancied by his connections at Trentham last month. Although he spoilt whatever chances he had by breaking, All Credit displayed sufficient speed to suggest that with a little more solidity he will have possibilities in future. A Strong Bracket. The New Brighton trainer G. Cameron appears to hold a strong hand in the Ikamatua Handicap at the Reefton Meeting with Travis Boy andDramatist. At Greymouth recently. Travis Boy went three excellent races to finish in the money on each occasion, and a little improvement should soon see him a winner. Dramatist, a four-year-old gelding by Grattan Loyal from Chancet, made his first appearance at Greymouth, and his showing suggested distinct possibilities in the future. Unlucky Last Outing. Grelba will have an opportunity in the New River Trot at the Southland Racing Club's Meeting to make amends for her earlier failure at Invercargill. The Grattan Loyal mare received all the worst of the running in the Invercargill Handicap, and later in the day she did well to finish close up fourth in the sprint event after again getting a difficult passage in a big field. Sale of Bel Hamed. After racing at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's Meeting, Bel Hamed was purchased by a client of L. F. Berkett's stable. By U. Scott from Bonnie Barbara, she has proved herself to be a very speedy pacer and would have had a much better record only for her uncertain barrier manners. Berkett has been a great reformer of problem horses in the past and under his guidance Bel Hamed may yet live up to her early promise.

A Good Performance,

The exclusion of First Globe from the list of contestants for the New Zealand Derby Stakes on Saturday was the result of his being eliminated by the committee on the previous day. However, it was discovered on the morning of the race that, as the conditions at the time of taking nominations did not provide for the selection of the field, First Globe was eligible to start. Arrangements were then made for quick transport to bring the colt to lhe course. He was taken straight out oi the paddock and rushed to Addington, arriving only a quarter of an hour before he was scheduled to appear. Under the circumstances his performance in finishing third, within a length of the winner, was a good one. Incidentally he also helped to save financially the host of supporters who pinned their faith on the favourite, Globe Direct, with whom he was bracketed.

A Four-figure Offer

A four-figure offer has been made for Grattan Bells and it is likely that the Grattan Loyal mare may find new quarters in the Waikato. She has been a very consistent performer and won three races recently at the Greymouth Meeting. She raced on the later days of the New Zealand Metropolitan Meeting and her performance in acting as runner-up to Netherby in the saddle event, the Lightning Handicap, was a striking effort.

Will Be in Favour

Owned and trained by a former South Island Rugby representative, Mr. J. Mason, Flying Chips went two good races at the last Greymouth Meeting and is likely to be in favour for his engagements at Reefton on Saturday. By Quite Sure from a Rey de Oro mare, he is a fast beginner and a reliable pacer. He won two races last season and was placed on four other occasions
