MERCHANT SEAMEN
POSTINGS OF MAIL
Sir Alexander Roberts, representative in New Zealand for the British Ministry of War Transport, has received advice from the Ministry in London that as from the beginning of November all mail for men of the Merchant Navy should no longer be addressed care of the British Ministry of War Transport, Wellington. Letters should be addressed either care of the shipowners at their head office in New Zealand, or to any other address which is furnished from time to time by the addressee or by the shipping company or their agents, and should not be addressed simply care of the local post office or G.P.0., London, or care of the British Fleet Mail office or similar addresses. Parcels should not be sent unless an address at a specific port in the same or some other country has been obtained from the shipowners or their agents or from the addressee; and those intending to send parcels should bear in mind that, if they are sending a parcel to an address outside their own territory, they must comply with any restrictions on the sending of parcels, for example, restrictions on the export of commodities, currency control and other regulations of their own territory and the customs and other requirements of the country of destination.
