Despite his ignominious defeat In the \V. S. Cox Plate at Moonee Valley today, Lawrence remains favourite for the Melbourne Cup
Sydney's champion mare Plight ran one nf the greatest races of her career to lead nearly all the way in the Cox Plate, flghtins; off challenge after challenge to win narrowly from the Victoria Derby favourite, Don Pedro Lawrence, an odds-on favourite, finished fourth. The Moonee Valley Cup was won by an outsider, Vnlcurl. in a tight finish, from tbf prominent Melbourne Cup candidate Leonard. The course was heavy and times were slow Results'* were :— W. S.
