SYDNEY'S PLAGUE OF FLIES
SYDNEY, October 28,
Sydney is at present being plagued by a record invasion of flies and moths, and the Lord Mayor, Mr. N. Harding, is considering a counter-offensive by spraying the citj with DDT from aeroplanes. The chief entomologist of the Department of Agriculture, Mr. T. McCarthy, thinks the fly invasion—the worst Sydney has ever known —may be due to decaying vegetables around the city from the glut last year,' and to the rainy autumn and winter followed by a dry spring.
