Chinese troops armed with machineguns roamed the streets in Shanghai, picking up a number of wealthy Chinese for questioning on suspicion of collaboration with the Japanese during the occupation. American intelligence officers disclosed that they are keeping an eye on a number of American residents in Shanghai who are believed to have collaborated with the Japanese, but they explained'that they are unable to do anything at the moment because the abolition of extra-territoriality makes extradition necessary.
