FLIGHT TO PEACE
UPHAM, V.C., IN RETREAT P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, October 1. The publicity directed at Captain C. H. Upham, following the announcement of the King's award of a bar to his y.C, has ended any chance he had of enjoying the privacy of life with his family in Christchurch.
CHRISTCHURCH, October 1
At present Captain Upham, centre of so much attention at his every appearance in Christchurch, is spending a few days' holiday at one of the less accessible Banks Peninsula bays, where there is neither a telephone nor road access.
Captain Upham did not accept a reported offer made by the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, last week, for him to be flown to England so that he could attend an investiture.
