TRANSITION IN CANADA

P.A. AUCKLAND, September 24. After spending seven weeks in Canada, where he consulted with his Government on a number of matters affecting Canadian and Australian affairs, the Canadian High Commissioner to Australia, Mr. Justice Davis, arrived in Auckland by air this morning, accompanied by Mrs. Davis, and continued his flight to Australia.

Interviewed at Whenuapai, he said that Canada was now facing her big problem of transferring from war to peace in industry. "Our country was previously an Atlantic country, but as a result of the war people are thinking more of the Pacific," he said; "There is a demand for the closest possible ties between Canada and New Zealand and Australia, and there is a more pronounced desire than ever to remain a member of the British Commonwealth of Nations."

He added that he found a very warm feeling towards New Zealand as a result of the Empire Air Training Scheme. Wherever he went he heard about New Zealand boys who had passed through.

Though there had been no easing in the tyre position in Canada, petrol rationing had been lifted entirely. The situation adjusted itself. It was left to the consumers to decide how much petrol they could use according to the state of their tyres.
