LEAGUE WALKOVER

SPECTACULAR GAME

WINGER SCORES 29

Although Auckland trounced Wellington m the representative League game at the Basin Reserve on Saturday —the score was 47-17—Wellington did not let the visitors have it ail their Own way on the field. Auckland's backs were continually dangerous given the slightest opportunity, and were headed by winger Nordgren, who scored 29 points with tries and conversions.

Auckland forwards played a more enterprising game than their Wellington opposites, who tired somewhat towards the end of the match, but the home side was better all round than in its earlier encounter with Auckland this season. i

Kelly opened the scoring within a couple of minutes of the start, and Ellworthy replied for Wellington. Neither try was converted; Upston followed wiji a further try, then Auckland had an • uninterrupted run of scoring in bright, open movements, Nordgren (2), Kelly, and Murray crossing the line and Nordgren converting three. McKeitch and Ellworthy put in a fast run, the latter going over in the corner, for an unconverted try. Before half-time Nordgren swept along again to make the score Auckland 24. Wellington 9 Wellington claimed a good share of the ground on resuming, but their backs were unable to finish oft the chances against the solid tackling and neat interceptions by Auckland. McLeod crossed for Auckland and Nordgren converted, and shortly afterwards Nordgren intercepted from a danger-ous-looking sally by Wellington, making a 50-yard run for a further try, which he converted also. Parata and McKeitch put three on each for Wellington. Moses converted the second from well out. In an even more spectacular effort, Nordgren pounded past the Wellington defence for 75 yards for an unconverted try.which brought the crowd to its feet. Two further, tries came to Auckland, thanks to Clement, before the game ended, Nordgren's boot rounding both off for the extra. The final score was Auckland 47, Wellington 17.
