BOARD FOR APPRENTICES

(To the Editor.) Sir, —In a short while I shall get my discharge from the R.N.Z.A.F., and in the ordinary course of events I should take a short period of leave, then proceed to my pre-war job; that of apprentice turner in the Railway, Workshops at Woburn. But, I am afraid this will be impossible if I have not some accommodation available in the Hutt. What is to be done when dozens of apprentices like myself are discharged from the Services, and try to find reasonable board in the city? At the age of 19| years I was leased from the Army (Territorial), after 18 months' service, to returAi to my apprenticeship, and board was unobtainable then; what is it to be like with the war entirely over and OL\ the boys going back to the shops? Would it be possible for the Government to acquire for railway apprentices' accommodation one, or perhaps two, of the hostels provided at Woburn for girl war-workers as they are vacated? I am sure that a. considerable number of my civilian workmates would appreciate an answer to this question, which, we hope, you will treat as being urgent.—l am, etc., MACHINE TOOL SETTER.
