Rongotai Townswomen's'' Guild. A large number of members and friends were welcomed by Mrs. E. Loader, . president of the Rongotai Townswomen's Guild, at a recent meeting held in the Methodist Church Hall, Kilbirnie. Anderson, who next week will leave for Suva, her husband having been appointed manager of 'the Grand Pacific Hotel, was the guest of honour at an evening party given recently by members of the Victory Club. Miss Itka Goodman sang and Miss Marjorie.Pegram Was the accompanist. Games and competitions and community singing led by Miss Bernie Martin helped to make the evening enjoyable. Miss N. Sparkes, thanking Mrs. C. W. Anderson on behalf of the members, presented her with a travelling bag with good wishes for the future. To Work in the Philippines. The U.S.A. State Department has arranged for Miss Anne Guthrie, representative of the World's Y.W.C.A., to go by air to the Philippines. Miss Guthrie, who will help in the reconstruction'of the Y.W.C.A. in the Philipgine Islands, was nersonally known to reneral and Mrs. Mac Arthur, as the general was stationed there during Miss Guthrie's former stay in the islands. Writing to New Zealand friends Miss Guthrie says that it will require all the fortitude she can muster to face what is ahead of her in the Philippines. At least 70 per cent, of what she knew and loved has been destroyed. Miss Guthrie says she appreciated so much the hospitality and friendliness of the Australians and she is looking forward to her visit to New Zealand later in the year.
