VEGETABLE EXPORT

ADVICE TO GROWERS

SUPPLIES FOR AMERICANS

"Indications are now to hand that New Zealand may not be required to supply green vegetables for export to American forces after the end of 1945," said the Minister of Marketing (Mr. Roberts) last night, when he issued the following instructions to growers:— (1) No further plantings of vegetables under contract to the Internal Marketing Division should take place after yesterday without the authority of the Division's district office. (2) Any grower who has made any commitments in preparation of planting under a contract with the Internal Marketing Division should immediately lodge full details with the local office of the Division or with its field officers, with a view to settlement of compensation, where necessary, under the terms of the contract. Growers must also supply full details of acreage now planted under contract. (3) Of the vegetables already sown or rjlanted, the Division will take delivery, but where delivery is estimated to be made after December 31, this fact should be immediately notified in writing to the branch office of the Internal Marketing Division for confirmation, and arrangements made for the acceptance of those vegetables which are planted and will mature on or after January 1, 1946. Further information as to the details to be followed by growers would be made available from the Division's district offices and by its field officers immediately, said the Minister. With regard to potatoes and onions, a similar procedure would apply and the Internal Marketing Division would work in close collaboration with the New Zealand Grain, Seed, and Produce Merchants' Federation towards that end.
