CLOSED ON MONDAY
RETAIL BUTCHERS' SHOPS
Butchers are to close their shops on Monday, September 10, to enable them to attend a meeting to consider the following:—(1) The shortage of stock; (2) high prices ruling for stock; (3) wholesale and retail meat prices; and (4) whether or not frozen meat should be made available for retail sale to the general public. This statement was made today by the secretary of the Wellington Employers' Association (Mr. W. J. Mountjoy), who emphatically denied a suggestion that all retail butchers' shops should be closed as from Monday next if Increased retail prices for meat were not granted.
