TINNED FOOD APPEAL

I LEAGUE'S FINE RESPONSE Several Victoria League members from different parts of New Zealand were guests at a luncheon held by the Wellington branch of the league yesterday. They were Mrs.! G. R. Wensley, Blenheim; Miss Gresson, Christchurch; Mrs. K. Clayton, Palmerston North; and Miss W. Swan, Wanganui. Thanks were accorded Mrs. A. Martin, who arranged the luncheon, and Mrs. R. B. Gibbons for the delightful floral decorations of rhododendrons, japonica, and deep pink- camellias. The president, Mrs. J. A. Doctor, spoke briefly of league matters and thanked the catering committee for its continued, efforts in providing every league gathering with delicious fare. Mrs. Doctor made an appeal for more members to spare a little time on Wednesdays to assist the Lady Galway Guild with the preparing of clothes for UNRRA, and also asked that members volunteer to visit hospital patients this month. The appeal for tinned food to be sent to England had been generously met) said the president, and she thanked especially Mrs. C. Beasley for her splendid, .contribution. With the aid of her husband.and several-friends,"--Mrs. Beasley had, managed to supply three <cases of tinned foods. Several hundred tins in all were ready to be packed within the next few days and it was hoped they, might be dispatched shortly.
