MAORIS & SOCIAL SECURITY
' Sir—Mr. Goosman and Opposition members can be congratulated on thencourage in expressing their opinions where social security is abused. The fine Maori race should first be helped to live under better conditions and helped to be more industrious by working and thriving on the land— which is their native instinct. Small settlement schemes should be created with decent houses where the Maori could prove his worth as a "tiller or the soil." Sir Apirana Ngata had the right idea and proved it on the Eastj Coast and other parts. Social security abuses are rife. Some Maoris, who can get benefits lose the incentive to work. Why kill ambition when we, can do such a lot? The present Gov-1 eminent is killing the last vestige oi enthusiasm of effort to strengthen the future of the Maori race.—l am, etc., HALF CASTE.
