THREE MONTHS FOR THEFT

John Alexander Sheerin, labourer and waiter, 22, was sentenced to .three months' imprisonment with hard labour by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., after he had pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court yesterday to the theft of a suitcase and clothing valued at £10. Detective-Sergeant E. H. Compton stated that the accused and the complainant, James Leo Collins, had been staying at a Palmerston North hotel. Collins had to go to Wellington and, expecting to return to Palmerston North in a few days, left his possessions in the care of the accused. The accused took them to a second-hand dealer and sold them.
