HEALTH CAMP HOLIDAY

100 PENSIONERS INVITED

Preparations are being made, through, the Bey. Harry Squires, City Missioner, for 100 old people to be given a holiday at the Otaki Health Camp in February, free of charge. This.announcement was made at a recent meeting of the Old Age Pensioners (Invalids' and Widows') Association, at which Mrs. M. J. McComish presided. It was decided to forward a letter of thanks to Mr. Squires. - An interesting address was given to the large gathering of old folk by Mrs. M. J. Forde, president of the National Council of Women, who said that 49 years ago the National Council had advocated a system of universal pensions. She outlined the activities of the women's associations affiliated with the National Council. A vote of thanks was accorded Mrs. Forde for her address and for her interest in pensioners. It was decided that the Pensioners' Association affiliate with the National Council of Women. Mrs. E. McGowan also spoke on the activities of the association during the month and of the assistance promised by the various- trades unions. Recently the committee and some friends entertained the president, Mrs. McComish, to afternoon tea to celebrate her birthday. Musical items were given, and the guest of honour was presented with a shoulder spray. Appreciation was expressed of the wonderful work Mrs. McComish has been doing on behalf of pensioners.
